State governor and All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain, Rochas Okorocha
has stressed the need for political leaders, no matter their party affiliations
to shield their swords for a faster development of the state.
The governor made the
call during the church dedication of little Emmanuel Kamsiyochukwu, son of
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Board of Trustee member of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) at the Cathedral Church of Transfiguration, Anglican Diocese,
Owerri on Monday.
Okorocha expressed
happiness in meeting with former Governor Ikedi Ohakim, former Deputy Speaker,
Chief Emeka Ihedioha, Senator Hope Uzodinma (Imo West) all PDP chieftains in
the same event, since after the 2015 general elections.
He said, “I thank God
for making this day possible that I have the privilege to have a handshake with
chief Ohakim, meet with Ihedioha, and Senator Uzodinma, all PDP members
struggling to be Imo governors.
“If it is possible, I
will request His Lord Bishop to provide a platform for us to meet and discuss
on better ways to move the state forward now that the election is over, in the
best interest of the state.”
Okorocha further
advised Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu to quit partisan politics and play the role
of a statesman, adding that the state will benefit more if Iwuanyanwu heeded
the advice.
He added, “Iwuanyanwu
is bigger than any political party in Nigeria and for him (Iwuanyanwu) to be a
member of a political party is not in the best interest of Imo.’’
Bishop Cyril Okorocha,
of the Anglican Diocese of Owerri in his address called on Nigerians,
especially women to be prayerful for peace and unity in the land.
