Super Eagles midfielder, Paul Onobi, has threatened to drag Nigeria Professional Football League (NFPL) side, Sunshine Stars, to FIFA after the Akure club refused to release him to complete his transfer to Finnish club, Kuopion Palloseura.
Onobi penned a
one-year contract with the Veikkauligga side, but has been unable to make his
debut for the team, because of delay from Sunshine in rubber-stamping the move.
The former Enyimba
man, insists he was cleared by the club to join KUPS and revealed the Finnish
team has written many letters to Sunshine without any response.
“I learnt Sunshine
Stars have declared me wanted, that’s very funny because I joined my new club (KUPs)
with their consent,” Onobi told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“My clearance states I
can go to a club of my choice, but now they have refused to sign off on the
deal.
“KUPs have contacted
Sunshine a number of times, but they did not respond. For now, I have decided
to take the case to FIFA.
“Enyimba were owing me
some money before I joined Sunshine Stars three years ago, but they traded the
money for my clearance, with the management of Sunshine Stars then promising to
pay me the money.
“For the three seasons
I spent at the club, they didn’t pay me the money. I guess the new management
at the club are not aware of this fact.
“I have all the
documents with me and I will send everything to FIFA.”
