1. The presidency has explained why President
Muhammadu Buhari failed to attend the recent South-East Economic and Security
Summit held in Enugu.
Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, in a
statement on Friday said contrary to the report, Buhari did not snub the event
due to the threat by any person or group of persons.
2. Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi
Amaechi has declared that President Muhammadu Buhari is working hard to end the
ongoing economic crisis in the nation.
Amaechi noted that one of the core mandates of the
Buhari-led government was to fulfill the needs and aspirations of Nigerians,
adding that government would ensure it achieved its promises.
3. A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has freezed
the account of Ex-First Lady, Patience Jonathan.
The presiding judge, Justice Mojisola Olatoregun,
while granting the order freezing the accounts ordered the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission, EFCC, to file an undertaking in relation to damages payable
by it if it turns out that the order should not have been made.
4. Some unknown gunmen have murdered a pensioner and
his wife in a compound around Fate area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The assailants were said to have shot the couple
many times before tying and dumping their bodies in a well.
5. Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has affirmed
that no amount of intimidation or blackmail from Federal Government agencies
would force him into selling the state to external predators.
Wike called the people of the state not to panic,
insisting that nobody could take the state by force despite the “sustained
blackmail” by the police and the Department of State Services.
6. Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu has
called on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Government to show regard to rule
of law by freeing embattled Radio Biafra director, Nnamdi Kanu.
According to him, it was not in the interest of the country for the government
to show disregard to orders of court.
7. The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris,
has approved Saturday December 31, 2016 as the commencement date for the
training of various cadres of applicants who were adjudged successful at the
recently concluded 2016 recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Police Force at
designated Training Schools nationwide.
According to the police boss, Sixteen (16) Police
Training Institutions across the country have been set aside for the training
exercise.
8. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has enjoined
Nigerians not to worry over the ongoing economic crisis in the nation, saying
that President Muhammadu Buhari’s government was addressing the challenges.
Osinbajo, who also blamed the past administrations in
the country for the current problem, however, showed faith in the efforts of
the current government to right the wrongs of the past.
9. No fewer than thirty-two retired judges,
including five retired state Chief Judges in Anambra State, led by Justice Godwin
Ononiba (retd), have dragged Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, to the
National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Awka for non-payment of their severance
allowance, gratuity, upward review of pensions, arrears of housing allowances
and overall welfare.
Also joined in the suit tagged complaint No:
NICN/Awk/43/2016 filed by their lawyer, Gabriel Udoka Moneke is the
Attorney-General of Anambra State.
10. The Department of State Services, DSS, has
accused the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, of recruiting youths in the
Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to create choas in the city that would lead
to a break down of law and order.
The spokesperson of DSS, Tony Opuoyo, said the
service had arrested some of the recruited youths while the ring leader, who,
he said, was a personal aide of the President of the Senate, was on the run.
